Car crash test mandatory, says government

For a country that loses one life every 4 minutes due to a road accident, there couldn't have been a better new year gift. The governmnet has made car crash tests mandatory for all new cars in India from October 2017. Road safety experts say this move will go along way in making Indian roads safer.
"Currently the vehicles being manufactured in India do not comply with European standards which is what we are detecting to adopt and we hope that through this better information will float to the consumers and the industry I am sure will respond in a positive manner and produce vehicle which comply with globally accepted standards of road safety," said Vijay Chibber, Secretary MoRTH.
Road safety expert Rohit Baluja said, "I believe anything concerned to the vehicle like the ABS electronic stability control and good airbags and seatbelts could make the drivers 80 percent better over the passengers. A consumer needs to be aware that what is the importance of those areas. And what do this cost."
